Abstract:
The Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act addresses the issue of property rights off the coast of the United States. It established a 200-mile Exclusive Economic Zone and Regional Fishery Management Councils comprised of federal and state officials. Also, it mandated the Secretary of Commerce to take action to rebuild species identified as over-fished. In addition, it mandated research on fishery management and conservation and established a fishing capacity reduction program.
