Abstract:
Discusses state of cybersecurity in China. China’s government and general populus have one of the world’s highest rates of malware infection (cyber-victimization). China blames foreign hackers for these attacks. Research suggests that many if not most of the world’s cyberattacks originate in China. Chinese Internet control policies such as the cancelled Green Dam project, which aim to create a “healthy cyberspace,” have proceeded with little regard for cybersecurity. Some Chinese corporations are beginning to ignore inefficient Internet regulatory policies, which could improve cybersecurity at the expense of China’s political legitimacy.
